Assessment

Raphael Marquez

Automotive Assessor

Hi, I’m Raphael, an Automotive Trainer and Assessor at Trade Skills Australia. I bring more than 28 years of automotive industry experience, including light vehicle mechanics, advanced diagnostics, workshop management, apprentice mentoring, customer service, and vocational training and assessment.

Throughout my career, I have worked across dealerships, independent workshops, mobile mechanical services, specialist truck manufacturing, and registered training organisations. I have held roles including Senior Technician, Workshop Controller, Foreman, Quality Controller, Workshop Floor Manager, Service Advisor, and Lead Hand. I also spent many years working with BMW and Mini vehicles, completing specialist training in advanced diagnostics, hybrid technology, roadside assistance, and workshop operations.

Today, I use that practical experience to support automotive professionals through Recognition of Prior Learning and trade skills assessments. My role involves reviewing evidence, conducting technical interviews, assessing practical skills, and helping candidates understand what is required to achieve an Australian qualification. I have worked with both local and international candidates and understand that the process can sometimes feel unfamiliar or stressful.

My approach is clear, professional, and supportive. I take the time to understand each candidate’s experience, explain the assessment process in practical terms, and help them present evidence that accurately reflects their skills. I believe a strong assessor must combine technical knowledge with patience, respect, and clear communication.

I hold the TAE40122 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, a Certificate III in Automotive Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology, automotive air-conditioning qualifications, a Motor Mechanic Tradesperson’s Certificate, and several industry licences.

At Trade Skills Australia, my goal is to provide every candidate with a fair, thorough, and professional assessment experience. For me, assessment is not just about paperwork. It is about recognising real skills, maintaining industry standards, and helping experienced tradespeople take the next step in their careers.
